Ribbon width: match your label width
The ribbon must be at least as wide as the label you're printing, and ideally a little wider, but not so wide it wastes material. A ribbon that's narrower than the label leaves an unprinted stripe, while one that's much wider than the label costs more than it needs to. Ribbon length and the core
Ribbons come in standard lengths wound on cores of a specific diameter, and your printer's ribbon spindle dictates the core size it accepts. Check your printer's maximum ribbon length and core diameter before ordering, because a ribbon that's too long won't fit, and the wrong core won't mount.
Wax, resin and wax-resin ribbon types

Coated side in or out
Ribbons are wound either coated-side-in or coated-side-out, and your printer expects one or the other. Loading a ribbon the wrong way round means no image transfers at all.
